Perhaps it’s just bad timing, as some of our readers commented that most of the people are busy at the end of the year. Nevermind. We are still happy to have 4 submissions for the first ever WordPress theme mod competition.

Premium Mod Competition: Help Us Spread The Word
Posted on 15. Dec, 2009 by admin in Announcement, Competition | 2 responses
We’ve reached mid-way of our Premium Mod Competition. Although we haven’t receive any submissions yet, we are positive about the receptions and we are sure that many of the participants are still working and tweaking their theme mod until the final day.
So we have a favor to ask from you.
If you believe in what we are doing, or downloaded one of our mods (which has been downloaded around 1,900 times), or would like to see more premium theme mods from us or from the community, help us spread the word.
You can write a blog post about the Premium Mod Competition. Or tweet about it. Or simply retweet it.
Thank you.

WooThemes Modding Series Part 4: Adding the Extra Features
Posted on 30. Nov, 2009 by admin in Tutorials | 2 responses
In the final part, we are going to finish off our series by adding extra feature to our Moviestar theme. Nothing fancy, we will be adding a header banner to the theme (with zero margin, you will see), which comes with a theme options to change it.
Adding Extra Theme Options
We will call our new feature ‘Custom Banner’. And we will add the theme options under ‘General Settings’, just below ‘Custom Favicon’.
On Adding Values
Posted on 30. Nov, 2009 by admin in Announcement | 0 responses
Matt said it in the interview with Jeff Chandler of WordPress Tavern. And most of the WordPress community agreed about adding values as well. So, I posted the question at WordPress Tavern forum asking about how do Premium Mod add values and the members came up with the following suggestions and ideas:
- add stuff (color scheme, feature, child theme, page template), rather than remove it.
- Optimize it so that it loads faster and less buggy.
- Increase flexibility (more widgetized area, less theme options).
- Change the layout (color/images).
What do you think? If you have any suggestions, feel free to chip in here.
WooThemes Modding Series Part 3: Customize the Look & Feel
Posted on 29. Nov, 2009 by admin in Tutorials | 2 responses
In this part, we are going to change the look and feel of the theme.
We are going to give a ’stardom’ feeling to the theme (since it will be called ‘Moviestar’). For that purpose, we’ve picked this stock photo as the background image (courtesy of Pixmac):

Though there are still few more days before the Premium Mod Competition, we already had our panel judges ready. These five awesome people all have different kind of experience with WordPress, and most of them don’t even need an introduction.
Without further ado, let me present you:
- Ian Stewart, the author of ThemeShaper and creator of the Thematic theme framework.
- Mohammed Haris, the owner of Design to WordPress.
- Hongkiat, a fellow Malaysian and the author of HONGKIAT.COM.
- Leland, the author of Theme lab.
- Dainis Graveris, the author of 1stwebdesigner.
The panel judges will vote for the best theme from the submission and the most voted theme will win the highest acclaimed prize of the competition – Judges’ Favorite.
We are still open for more prize sponsorship. If you are interested to sponsor cash/prizes, let us know!
WooThemes Modding Series Part 2: Remove Stuff We Don’t Need
Posted on 28. Nov, 2009 by admin in Tutorials | 0 responses
In part 2, we are going to declutter – removing stuff we don’t need in the theme.
Removing Items in Theme Options
We looked at the theme options and figured we don’t need two things:
- The Theme Stylesheet selection (as we are going to define our own style).
- The ‘About You’ option (as we thought it could be better replaced by the blog tagline).
